Abstract

Consecutive interpreting practice is used with second- & third-year undergraduates to sharpen language skills in a new & demanding context. The material takes the form of spontaneous bilingual dialogues between a native speaker of English & one of French, each using his own lang. At least one should be an expert in the subject for discussion to ensure authenticity of both language & content. The student finds himself in the situation of the liaison interpreter, working alternately from both English & French. To do this successfully, an excellent knowledge of both langs, & the ability to transpose ideas fluently from one to the other are needed. Appropriate methodological approaches for classroom & laboratory are discussed. 1 Diagram. Modified AA
