Abstract

Practitioners in all areas of student affairs work, and at all levels of responsibility, find themselves often challenged by ethical dilemmas, according to a recent survey described in this article. In addition, many individuals express considerable confusion, particularly new professionals, about what is required to be an ethical professional in difficult moral and ethical situations. This article presents the findings of this survey, indicating the most common types and themes among the contemporary ethical issues student affairs professionals face. Several recommendations for how our profession can maintain and enhance our ethical and moral imperative are discussed.
