Abstract
This study provides the results of research aimed at learning university students' perceptions of what constitutes a good professor with the aim of applying that information to the teaching-learning process. It analyzes the importance they assign to personal, professional and methodological qualities. To that end, a questionnaire dealing with the various aspects that define a good university docent was applied to 216 students. The results show that students assign special importance to the university professor being respectful, open, responsible, understanding and having the ability to listen; having mastery over the subject matter, preparing classes, and being a good communicator; wielding a diverse methodology that encourages participation and provides clear explanations using practical and true examples; answering questions and clearing up doubts during class (methodology), and providing a formative, continuous and flexible assessment. The study encountered significant differences in course and gender variables.
