Abstract

Methods to tune the scattering length on the ground triplet state of cesium were developed and analyzed. Off-resonant laser field was used to modify the scattering length from negative to positive. The Schrodinger equation for the two electronic states coupled by an electromagnetic field were solved to determine the scattering length from continuum wave functions at low energies. The results depicted the change of scattering length from negative to positive due to the decrease of population density at short internuclear distance. The attractive interaction enhanced the ground state population making the Bose-Einstein condensation unstable.
