Abstract

A multi-author publication with 14 chapters on the major invertebrate phyla, 7 covering associated areas of study and 2 indices. Chapters are abstracted separately. The 'associated areas' are; 1. Nature and scope of invertebrate paleontology (not abstracted); 2. Invertebrate organisation, a review; 3. Ecology-Paleoecology; 4. Evolution; 5. Fossil preservation; 6. Classification - Philosophies and methods; 7. Biostratigraphy and Paleobiogeography. Useful endpapers show ranges and abundancies of invertebrate groups, the taxonomic hierarchies used in the book and a geological timescale. Each chapter ends with a supplementary reading list, and many are organised into two sections; the first covering general topics and the second additional concepts. - A.R.I.Cruickshank
