The Difficult Wound: Prevention and Management

Abstract

Program Description: This miniseminar will address the difficult surgical wound, including prevention and management strategies. The format will be case-based and fully interactive. Topics will include medical causes of poorly healing wounds, nonsurgical wound management, and surgical strategies to prevent the non-healing wound and to manage when it occurs. Educational Objectives: 1) Be able to identify factors preoperatively that place surgical patients in a high risk category for the development of a poorly healing or nonhealing wound. 2) Be able to develop medical and surgical strategies to minimize wound complications based on an understanding of preoperative risk factors. 3) Be able to manage the difficult surgical wound when it occurs, using surgical and nonsurgical strategies.
