Abstract

Accommodating stressful life events must take into consideration the stressful life event, the social support, and the internal control of individuals enduring such life stress experiences. Principles of learned helplessness, locus of control, and safety signal play an important role in the adaptation of traumatized individuals to stressful life events. The processing of trauma often goes through a series of five stages. People who are traumatized and who adjust have an ability to deal with the shock in terms of limited objectives.
