Abstract
In this paper, the main focus is to bring out the vital need to promote personal bio-power in the urban context via solid waste management as the garbage disposal has become a serious national concern. The waste as well as power requirements has sharply grown due to the increase in population, industrialization, and urbanization in India. Both the Waste Generation and Power consumption amongst Indian cities is very high compared to their geographical area of the state. It shows the socio-economic state of affairs and also the plight of rural areas that have long power cuts. Personal bio-power in urban areas will help in solid waste management and will also liberate / reduce large amount of energy generated from conventional sources of fossil fuels. Innovations in techniques of waste management integrated with home solutions leads to personal bio-power. The organic waste generated at the source is used to produce bioenergy and its by-products and also reduce waste for disposal to Municipal Authorities which is needed for Smart Cities.
