Abstract

The article aims to analyze the orthogonal milling method which can be applied in machining powder high-speed steels. To conduct the experiment, BÖHLER S390 MICROCLEAN HSS and carbide insert cutters were selected. A turning center with a driven tool was used. To examine the temperature in the cutting zone, a mathematical model of an orthogonal turn-milling process was developed and optimal cutting data were chosen using the results of simulation procedures. The model obtained can be used to analyze temperature changes in the cutting zone. The experiments determined the effect of the cutting parameters such as tool feed, speed and radial depth of cut on temperatures in the cutting zone.
