Environmental Sustainability in Islamic Campus Life: Multi-major Students' Perspective

Abstract

This study investigates the intricate relationship between environmental sustainability and the daily lives of multi-major students in Islamic campuses. Grounded in the imperative to integrate sustainability into educational institutions, particularly Islamic universities, the research explores students' perspectives on creating a 'Green Campus.' Employing a descriptive research approach with a socio-cultural phenomenological framework, the study utilizes purposive sampling and qualitative interviews with 12 students from four majors. The findings illuminate a commitment to sustainability deeply embedded in the academic community, contributing to the campus's recognition as one of the top 10 green campuses. While acknowledging positive aspects, the study also delves into challenges, such as inconsistent cleanliness and toilet-related issues, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement. The research aims to contribute to the discourse on creating eco-conscious educational environments by understanding the intersection of Islamic values and sustainable practices. In conclusion, the study sheds light on the commitment to sustainability within the academic community, portraying Islamic campuses as hubs for environmentally responsible future leaders.
