Abstract

Abstract: Electrostatic beam position monitors (pickup stations) are among the main methods for obtaining information on the properties of an electron beam in electron cooling systems. In the case of low electron energies, the space charge of the beam can have a substantial effect on the interpretation of the experimental data. This study is devoted to experimentally investigating changes in the amplitude of the sum signal at pickup stations, which can be associated with the formation of space-charge waves arising along the electron beam. Space-charge waves are excited by applying an alternating voltage to the near-cathode (control) electrode.
