Abstract

Sinabung Volcano is one of the active volcanoes located in Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, It is a strato-type volcano with an altitude of 2,460 m that has been active since 2010. Monitoring of volcano activity through deformation methods can be known through the process of monitoring inflation and deflation due to changes in pressure from within the volcano. Deformation that occurs at any point on the earth's surface can occur significantly or steadily over a period of time. In this study, the Differential Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) technique uses sentinel 1A imagery to see widespread deformation and GPS data to determine the phenomenon of deformation at GPS observation points on Mount Sinabung every month from 2018 to 2019. Deformation on Mount Sinabung using DInSAR deflation every month with a value of -40 centimeters to 20 centimeters with inflation in December 2018. Meanwhile, observations of Sinabung Volcano using GPS from January 2018 to April 2019 experienced three times inflation before the eruption and experienced three times deflation after the eruption. Sinabung Volcano observations after no dominant eruption experienced deflation. Sinabung Volcano experienced three eruptions caused by volcanic activity and other earthquakes, including tornillo earthquakes, low frequency, fall, hot clouds and gusts.
