Abstract

Manganese distribution between liquid iron and MgO-saturated slags containing P//2O//5 or S has been obtained in the temperature range 1550 to 1650 degree C by use of magnesia crucibles. The manganese distribution ratio increases with increase in SiO//2 content and decrease in temperature. The relationship between activity coefficient of MnO or equilibrium quotient k//M//n ( equals (%MnO)/ left brace %Mn right bracket multiplied by (times) (%Fe//tO) right brace ) and slab basicity B ( equals left bracket (%CaO) plus 0. 3(%MgO) right bracket / left bracket %SiO//2) plus (%P//2O//5) right bracket was observed.
