Abstract
Introduction: Soft drinks are an important risk factor for health and contribute to overweight and obesity. Objective: The purpose of the research was to determine the factors associated with the consumption of soft drinks in first-year students of the Faculty of Human Medicine in the year 2017-II. Methods: The sample consisted of 92 Medicine students of the first year, a previously validated survey was applied, divided into 4 sections: sociodemographic data, knowledge about the consumption of soft drinks, attitude towards the consumption of soft drinks and consumption of soft drinks. The data obtained were analyzed using frequency distribution tables, contingency tables and obtaining OR, 95% CI and p <0.05, using the statistical program IBM SPSS Statistic 22. Results: It was found that of the 92 university students surveyed, 60.2% and 38.7% were female and male respectively. The majority of students reported medium and high alcohol consumption levels of 69.6% and 25%. medium (57.6%) and high (35.9%) knowledge level maintained a medium (65.3%) and high (23.2%) average soft drink consumption. The female sex was significantly associated with the consumption of soft drinks, OR 1.385, IC 95% (1.037-6.519), p: 0.039. Conclusion: The consumption of soft drinks in medical students was high and was not influenced by the level of knowledge. The female sex is significantly associated with the consumption of soft drinks. Key words: Consumption; Soft drinks; Students of the faculty of human medicine. (source: MeSH NLM)
