Abstract

The paper presents data concerning changes in nomenclature and taxonomy beginning from Corynebacterium pyogenes and Actinomyces pyogenes up to their present name: Arcanobacterium pyogenes. It defines the importance of the above microorganism in causing diseases in cattle and swine - generally characterized by subcutaneous abscesses and abscesses of the internal organs. The paper also cites literature explaining the mechanism of pathologenicity as well as mentioning the possibility of immunoprophylaxis and applying antibiotics as feed additives.
