Abstract
Rwanda, recognized for its proactive environmental policies, has undertaken significant initiatives aimed at restoring degraded ecosystems and mitigating climate change. This paper examined the implementation of reforestation and ecosystem restoration projects emphasizing the use of native tree species and promoting community-led conservation strategies for biodiversity enhancement, water resource improvement, and climate resilience across Rwanda using appropriate procedures incorporating field observations, semi-structured interviews with local stakeholders and a review of relevant policy documents and project reports. The findings reveal that Rwanda is addressing environmental degradation while simultaneously advancing sustainable livelihoods through eco-tourism and forestry-related enterprises. Its restoration efforts illustrate the close ties between environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and socioeconomic progress. Nonetheless, the country continues to face challenges such as land-use pressures, insufficient funding, limited technical expertise, and gaps in monitoring systems to this end, the study highlights major initiatives such as the Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy and evaluates the role of international partnerships in scaling restoration efforts and advancing Rwanda's green economy agenda.
