Abstract

Serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) merupakan tanaman yang biasa digunakan sebagai rempah oleh masyarakat Indonesia. Serai wangi diketahui memiliki kandungan alkaloid, terpenoid, saponin, flavonoid, dan tanin. Salah satu penyakit pada gigi dan mulut adalah karies yang disebabkan infeksi bakteri, yaitu Streptococcus mutans. Kandungan senyawa dalam serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri diantaranya adalah flavonoid, saponin, dan minyak atsiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis komponen fitokimia dan menguji aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak batang serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) dengan etanol 96%, serta fraksi-fraksinya yaitu N-Heksan-Etil Asetat-Air. Ekstraksi batang serai wangi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi. Hasil analisis fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol batang serai wangi memiliki kandungan alkaloid, saponin, tanin, dan flavonoid. Ekstrak etanol dan fraksi batang serai wangi berpotensi sebagai antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans dengan diameter zona hambat 28.2 mm untuk fraksi teraktif yaitu fraksi etil asetat. Lemongrass contain alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. One of the diseases of the teeth and mouth is caries that is caused by bacterial infection, namely Streptococcus mutans. The content of compounds in Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) that can inhibit bacterial growth are flavonoids, saponins, and essential oils. This study aimed to analyze the phytochemical components and to test the antibacterial activity of lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L.) stem extracted with 96% ethanol, and its fractions, using solvent N-Hexan-Ethyl Acetate-Water. Extraction of lemongrass stems was carried out by the maceration method. The results of the phytochemical analysis showed that the ethanolic extract of the citronella stems contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. Ethanol extract and lemongrass stem fraction have a potential as antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans with an inhibition zone diameter of 28.2 mm for the most active fraction, namely the ethyl acetate fraction.
