Abstract

It used to be thought that management in engineering did not need to be trained engineers. This is no longer true: in the aftermath of Bhopal, Challenger and Chernobyl we cannot afford to have basic decisions about macro-systems made by people with no technical training.Respect must be cultivated for both the traditional values of history, literature and the arts, and for the safety and engineering or technological skills required for social advancement. © 1986 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
