Abstract

If an “injured” workman called out for help, 81% of the college Ss helped him. If the workman groaned in pain but did not call out, only 29% helped. The difference was significant and could not be accounted for by differences in judgments of amount of pain felt by the workman in the two conditions. © 1971, Psychonomic Journals, Inc..
