Experimental Infection of Birds with Leptospira pomona Present in Bovine Urine and Preliminary Studies on Their Role in Transmission of Leptospirosis

Abstract

Administration in the drinking water of dluted urine from a heifer with leptospiruria produced a positive aggltination titre fo pomona in 4/6 cockerels, 2/3 partridges,1/8 ducks and 2/2 pheasants. An attempt to demonstrate leptospira in the excreta f the birds by inoculating diluted feacal samples ip into 2 day old chicks was unsuccessful.
