Abstract
Wing-length and weight data from Reed and Sedge Warblers from two reed bed sites in Northern Yugoslavia have been analysed, showing that juvenile Sedge Warblers from Ludasko were significantly heavier than those from Susek. This correlates with the greater aphid abundance at the former site. Allowing for the greater mean wing-length of Yugoslavian birds, juvenile Sedge Warblers from Ludasko were significantly heavier than those from Christchurch, Dorset, G.B. in spite of the much lower aphid density at Ludasko. It is suggested that Reed and Sedge Warblers use the marshes of Northern Yugoslavia in autumn, to put on weight for a migratory flight. © 1978 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
