Abstract
The experimental result of the thermal performance of an alternative roof system under the thermal behavior of two roof systems is presented: Reinforced Concrete Slab and Slab Plate. In the three systems, concrete and steel is used, but in the alternative Roof waste materials are also used as insulator: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Sawdust (A) and Coconut Shell (CC). The work is the result of a series of experiments carried out by the Academic Corps COCOVI between 2006 and 2008 and it is justified because in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, over 70% of houses roofs are made of reinforced concrete, INEGI (2006). This is why it was taken as a parameter to improve because of the characteristics of the conforming materials, which generates an unwilling thermal impact, mainly, in the inhabitants of housing of up to two levels. The evaluation was developed on the basis of dynamic climatology, by determining an experimental typical day, based on a representative period of maximum heat, defined under the normal climatologic conditions of the place. Thermal measurements were carried out with automatic recording devices in evaluation cells at 1:1 scale, for comparison. The result allows us to assert that the alternative roof filled with waste materials, presents a better behavior than the two roofing systems with which it was compared. Thus its application in the housing is considered convenient.
