The Disaster inside the Disaster

Abstract

The article discusses the redevelopment of New York City and New Orleans, Louisiana after Hurricane Sandy which hit Atlantic City, New Jersey in 2012, with special attention paid to the World Trade Center attack of September 11, 2001, and Hurricane Katrina which hit New Orleans on August 29, 2005. Topics involve federal aid to natural disasters, crisis-driven urbanization, and post-crisis policies. Attention is paid to Naomi Klein's book "The Shock Doctrine."
