Abstract

Electroconvulsive therapy is among the most emotive of topics in the whole of medicine. With the closure of almost all of the psychiatric hospitals, many patients are being treated with electroconvulsive therapy on an outpatient basis and therefore community pharmacists may well find themselves being drawn into discussions with patients and - most important of all - relatives about the rights and wrongs, the merits and demerits of this form of treatment.
