Abstract

I focus this paper on Jiři Levýs ideas about aesthetic problems in Literary translation. The corpus is based on the translation from German into Spanish of the autobiographies of two artists: Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980) and George Grosz (1893-1959). According to J. Levý's theories, these kinds of texts written by artists, and not by literary authors, could be considered as Literature texts. In my opinion the ideas expressed in Levýs Umení překladu (1963), translated into German by Walter Schamschula in 1969, turn him into a classical theorist, as the Spanish Prof. Vega Cernuda, introductor of Jiři Levýs theories in the Spanish cultural polsystem, demonstrates including Levýs ideas about translation in his Textos clásicos de teoría de la traducción (1994 [2004]).
