Abstract
In the lower Pleistocene, the large rivers Parana and Uruguay deposited the sandy Ituzaingo and Salto Chico Formations. During the middle Pleistocene a 'pampean' environment was established, with sedimentation of calcareous silts (Punta Gorda Group) evolving to drier conditions to the upper Pleistocene (Hernandarias Formation) . Later on, erosion of the river valleys and the alluvial filling of them occurred (La Picada Formation), with an intermediate semiarid period (Tezanos Pinto Formation). -from English summary
