Membangun Kesadaran Penggunaan Obat yang Aman dan Rasional melalui Program Edukasi DAGUSIBU di Masyarakat Desa Kusambi, Kecamatan Kusambi, Kabupaten Muna Barat

Abstract

Unsafe and irrational drug use remains a public health issue, particularly in self-medication practices at the community level. Limited public knowledge regarding drug types, proper usage, storage, and disposal increases the risk of medication errors and antibiotic resistance. This community service activity aimed to build awareness and improve public understanding of safe and rational drug use through the DAGUSIBU education program (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of medicines properly) in Kusambi Village, Kusambi District, West Muna Regency. The activity was conducted using an offline educational counseling approach through lecture methods supported by PowerPoint presentations and educational leaflets, followed by interactive discussion and question-and-answer sessions. The educational materials covered the concept of Rational Drug Use (RDU), the dangers of antibiotic resistance, drug classification based on regulatory categories, appropriate dosage, and the application of DAGUSIBU principles in daily self-medication practices. The program involved 20 participants consisting of village officials and community members. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of obtaining medicines from authorized pharmaceutical facilities, using medicines according to proper instructions, storing medicines appropriately, and safely disposing of unused or expired medicines. This educational program is expected to promote more rational, safe, and responsible drug use behavior within the community
