Abstract
The film "Moana" is a film by John Grierson that tells the story of a teenage girl, the daughter of a leader in the village of Motunui who wants to save her village from natural destruction. In the conversation in the film Moana, there are several violations of the principle of cooperation which give rise to conversational implicatures. This research aims to describe the types of violations of the principle of cooperation committed by characters in the animated film "Moana" by John Grierson and to describe the conversational implicatures that occur as a result of violations of the principle of cooperation in the animated film "Moana" by John Grierson. The research method used is descriptive-analytical, with data collection techniques using the listening method followed by note-taking techniques, while the analytical method used in this research uses the extra lingual matching method for data sources taken from the speech of characters in the film "Moana". The results of the research revealed that in the animated film "Moana" there was a violation of the principle of cooperation, namely a violation of the maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim of method or implementation. Violations of the principle of cooperation give rise to conversational implicatures which include:
