Abstract

Some novel polyhydroxypolyamides were prepared by the condensation polymerization of esterified D-glucaric and galactaric acid with 1° diamines containing one or more heteroatoms. The polymers then were compared according to their molecular weights, thermal properties (glass-transition temperature and melting points), and solubilities in water and methanol. The influence on the solubility brought about by the introduction of a charge onto the polymers possessing a tertiary nitrogen in their primary structure was investigated.
