Construcción, reconstrucción y consolidación del desaparecido grupo escolar "francisco giner de los ríos" de alicante (España)

Abstract

The demolition of the "Francisco Giner de los Ríos" School Group Building was unquestionably a loss for the city of Alicante (Spain) that eliminated one of the most relevant examples of rationalism. This building was a symbol of the modernity and development of teaching in Alicante. The present article aims to provide the documentation that preceded the demolition of this building and presents the results of the study of the building's history: phases of planning (1933), construction (1934-1935), reconstruction and reinforcement (1943-1944). The causes of the collapse of the building, the scope and magnitude of the damage to the building, and the advanced techniques that were used during the building's restoration are determined in the present article. In addition, special consideration is given to the interventions of the foundation and the consolidation of the land, pilings and cement grouting, internationally relevant practices that were in place during the post-war period in Spain and World War II.
