Abstract

To discuss the availability of food in Brazil, based on, and associating to data from scientific literature. This is the first of six articles, discussing the determining factors and the resulting ones of Food and Nutritional Security, and Brazil's conditions related to them. The same pattern is observed in all articles, considering: (i): the concept/factor to be studied, (ii): the form to measure that factor; (iii): a Brazilian characterization on the subject; (iv): global and interrelated conclusions; (v): final considerations, leading to the factor's implications in important strategies that should be formulated. Brazil is a country in which food availability does not constitute a limiting factor of its Food and Nutritional Security. In spite of this, the sustainability of food availability and the inequality are factors that are jeopardizing the national nutritional system.
