Abstract
Arctic engineering is defined here as the technological effort to solve problems unique to the arctic environment. Because of the large environmental changes known to occur from small, man-made disturbances, solutions must be found that are in harmony with the environment. Discussed briefly are the more important topics of arctic engineering, including water supply, waste disposal, permafrost, ice, snow, ice fog, magnetic storms, materials, and biology. Some well known solutions are presented, particularly those related to permafrost and sea ice.
