Abstract

Experimental investigations were carried out to examine the effect of vortex generators on the characteristics of the flow around a circular cylinder in a cross flow in the range of subcritical Reynolds numbers. The Strouhal number, the static pressure disribution, the R. M. S. values of the fluctuating pressure, the position of the separation of flow and the structure of the boundary layer have been measured. The flow patterns can be classified according to the position of the height of the generator rows, and the roughness Reynolds number. Characteristics of these flow patterns and the relationship among them were clarified.
