Abstract

Background; Maternal anemia is a majorhealth problem that affects both the mother and her childbyincreasingthe mortality & morbidity rates, thus a good antenatal care can promote their health. Objectives:-Assessment of the prevalence of Maternalanemia regarding antenatal care services.Method; A descriptive cross-sectionalstudy wascarried out in AL- Andalushealthcenter, that (200) available pregnant females in 3rd trimester had been interviewed (using non probability convenience sampling) by using a questionnaire paperduring the period between January-March, 2020.Results;The study revealed that mostof females were between 18-35 yearswith average mean ((28.5 ±2)) years,educated from urban areas, multipara.Theprevalence of anemiawas 58% that14% was mild anemia (meanof hemoglobin ((10.21, ±0.50with(C.I 10.25 –10.18 and PCV=33.6)), 38% wasmoderate anemia((mean of hemoglobin 7.5, ± 0.15with(C.I7.52- 7.48 and PCV=26.5)), 6% of females had severe anemiawith mean hemoglobin ((6.63, ± 0.20and(C.I 6.66- 6.60 and PCV=21.7)).Regardingantenatal care services:Half of females had taken ferrofole tablet once dailyinterruptedlywith significant association with anemia,P value= 0.05,most of themattended care centers in the 2rd trimester and didn’t reach (7) visits which wasaffected by their education and working with statisticallysignificance,P value=0.05. More than half of respondentshad done investigationsinterruptedly asultra- sound, hemoglobin level, general urine and blood pressure exam whilethere was no checking about weight, TORCH, HBAIC even so,30% of them was hypertensive,20% wasdiabetic,80% had urinary tract infection and 30% hadbleeding during this pregnancy.For dietary pattern,half them hadaverage intake of meat but 100% had poor intake of organs. 60% had good intake of eggs and milk products. Regarding fruit, 50% had average intake of apple and orange but 80% had poor intake of grape, date- juice and banana, the same finding was found with the vegetables but there was poor intake of green leaves, spinach and chard. 100% had good intake of carbohydrate, 80% fatty food. For habits there was no smoking and most of them had good intake of tea, coffeeand gas drinking.Conclusion;More than half of respondents were anemic with insufficient coverage &inadequate utilization of antenatal care services which mostly affected by maternal education, occupation and parity while for dietary pattern there was average & poor intake of food that rich with iron.
