Abstract
The difficulties for immigrants in finding employment in Madrid related to their lack of knowledge of the Spanish language. Immigration in cities is a structural and permanent process. The advantages of immigration for cities are numerous and have been repeatedly mentioned by economists: flexibility, availability, low wages, etc. The Community of Madrid has been able to maintain economic growth and stability that has attracted talent from all parts of Spain, as well as beyond national borders. Following the 2008 global crisis, immigrants from all over the world have faced surmounting difficulties and exclusions. This article analyzes some of the difficulties that are derived from not knowing the Spanish language in work-related environments. The use of one’s language at work can be considered an activator of conflicts because it generates mistrust and problems of various magnitudes between the migrant population and their employers and/or clients. The analysis of the causes and the search for solutions to them are part of the object of this article, which aims to provide a conciliatory vision from the deep analysis of the existing problems.
