Abstract
The proceedings consist of 43 papers on damage caused by many different animals, and programmes and solutions to control these problems. After an overview section, papers were presented in 5 sessions: carnivore damage, including mountain lion Felis concolor predation on domestic sheep, trophy game damage, coyote Canis latrans control, livestock guarding by dogs, and black-footed ferret Mustela nigripes recovery; urban wildlife damage involving particularly beaver Castor canadensis, deer and raccoon Procyon lotor; big game damage, particularly deer and elk Cervus elephus damage to livestock forage, private rangelands, orchards and tree nurseries, and means of control; bird damage by American robin Turdus migratorius, great-tailed grackle Quiscalus mexicanus (and effects of control techniques on non-target birds), double-crested cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus, black-bellied whistling duck Dendrocygna autumnalis and herring gull Larus argentatus; rodents and lagomorph damage, ie by rabbits, pocket gophers and prairie dogs (and effects of prairie dog rodenticides on ground-dwelling invertebrates, and of black-tailed prairie dogs Cynomys ludovicianus on plant composition). Many of the papers are concerned with attitudes of the public and the influence of this on work being done. -J.W.Cooper
