Abstract

Obesity is a risk factor for the development of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The role of visceral adiposity in contributing to OSA has been highlighted in this review. The use of noninvasive methods of measurement of visceral adiposity, including epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness, offers a unique opportunity to elucidate changes in visceral adiposity in the setting of OSA. The role and impact of newer medications, including incretin-based therapy, on EAT thickness and their role in the management of OSA have also been highlighted.
