Y1-XVO4: Eux3+ (x = 3 mole % to 8 mole%) phosphors have been prepared by solid state reaction. The dopant Eu3+ concentration was optimized in the Yttrium Vanadate host lattice with the help of Photoluminescence (PL) spectra. These phosphors have displayed bright red color under UV source. The emission intensities were determined and the relative fluorescence intensities have been estimated. The richness of the red color has been verified by determining their chromaticity coordinates (X, Y) from the CIE standard charts also. The size effect on the emission is discussed. XRD of the samples prepared are used for the conformity of the host and dopant. The prominent ratio of intensities of 5D0 → 7F2 / 5D0 → 7F1 reported earlier in literature is 3.1 while in the present case it is 3.66 indicating a better processes of synthesis of the YVO4:Eu.
