Abstract

In the case of the relations between Brazil and Chile in the last forty years, 1964 inaugurates a new stage. Between 1964 and 2006 we can distinguish relatively well marked approach and distancing movements. Such movements occur within the framework of a relationship that would be characterized by a tendency, designed throughout the nineteenth century, to build a solid and stable friendship. What would be the factors that favor its materialization? Which ones make it difficult? The present work tries to respond in a schematic way to these questions in the Brazilian-Chilean relationship, which are presented in three periods that, added together, serve to indicate the “logic” of the bilateral relations of both countries.
