Infectious Salmon Anemia Virus

Abstract

Infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV) is a member of the family Orthomyxoviridae, responsible for causing infectious salmon anemia (ISA) in farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Characterized by lethargy, anemia, hemorrhage of the internal organs, and death, ISA syndrome has been described in Norway, Scotland, Canada, the United States, the Faroe Islands, and Chile. Posing a serious threat to the economic sustainability of aquaculture industries worldwide, ISA is listed as a reportable disease by the OIE.
