The article presents information about Donald A. Bullough, an author and researcher. Bullough was born in Staffordshire on June 13, 1928. Donald took the old school certificate at the age of thirteen gaining three distinctions and six credits. In 1964, he published a masterly account of early medieval Pavia, the Lombard capital, and a study of cathedral schools in Italy which remains the best attempt to define the differences between cathedral and monastic schools in the early Middle Ages, a distinction too often blurred. In 1965 his book, "The Age of Charlemagne," was first published.
