Abstract

The women’s needs for vitamins, macro-and micronutrients are substantially increased during pregnancy. Deficiency of iron and other micronutrients promotes complicated pregnancy and labor and increases the risk of perinatal pathology. Objective: to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the vitamin-mineral complex Vitrum Prenatal Forte in preventing and treating anemia during pregnancy, in optimizing the ways of reducing the frequency of pregnancy complications, and in improving perinatal outcomes. Subjects and methods. The observational program “Prognostic” was implemented under the supervision of the V.I. Kulakov Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, Ministry of Health of Russia, in 33 cities from 7 Russian regions in September 2013 to January 2016 and covered 5421 pregnant women followed up by 678 obstetricians/gynecologists. All the patients took one Vitrum Prenatal Forte tablet daily after breakfast from the moment of registration to delivery; a treatment cycle averaged 32 weeks. Results. The incidence of anemia in the examinees using Vitrum Prenatal Forte was 6.6%, which was significantly less than the average for the Russian Federation, reaching 32%. The analysis of the curse of pregnancy in the examined patients showed a sta-tistically significant (p<0.001; χ2) reduction in the frequency of pregnancy complications: which amounted to 16.2, 6.2, and 5.8% in the first, second, and third trimesters, respectively. The investigation showed that the perinatal mortality rate (4.7‰) was almost twice lower than that in the general population (8.81‰) in Russia in 2014. Conclusion. The observational study has confirmed that the regular intake of balanced vitamin-mineral complexes contributes to the physiological course of pregnancy and reduces the risk of anemia and the incidence of other complications of pregnancy.
