Abstract
Physical activityhas the potential toincrease thepulse frequency. It isdue tothe higheractivity ofthe body, the higher the increase inbloodflowto supplynutrientsandoxygento themuscle tissueso thatthe heart contractsfaster andstrongerwhichalso resulted inan increaseinbodyheat. Increasedbody heatwill beabsorbedby thewater presentin thecirculation ofthe bloodandexcreted through sweat together with some mineralssuch assodium, chlorine, potassium, calcium, andmagnesium. Consumingisotonic drinkwith themineralscontained therein and has similar compositionof body fluidswill behelpfultopreventfatiguedue tolack of fluidandelectrolytes. This research was done to investigate the effect of isotonic drink on recovery time after physical activity. Design used was experimentalpretest-posttest, done to samples selectedwithcertaincriteria. The experiment was conductedat theState University ofPadangwithsamplesderivedfromtaekwondoathletes of Padang State University. Isotonicdrinkwas given30minutesbeforeactivity and pulse frequency used as parameter was measured at 5 th minutes in recovery phase. Average pulse frequency at 5 th minutes in group which did not receiveisotonic drink was 118.79±11:42per minuteswhilein group administered isotonic drinkwas118.00±10.94minutes. The statistical analysis showed that there was no significant effect of isotonic administration on recovery time after physical activity.
