Aplicação da filtração em margem de rio como alternativa de tratamento de água para comunidades isoladas

Abstract

Communities that live far from the urban areas often lack basic sanitation services, such as water supply. Bank filtration emerges as a water treatment alternative for supplying isolated communities. The objective of this work is to evaluate the implantation of riverbank filtration, discussing the site choice and water treatment performance by this technique. The soil of the river bed and site were characterized in terms of grain size as well as the river in terms of flow velocity. Water samples were collected from the river and the production well in order to evaluate the treatment. The verified characteristics indicated that the chosen site presents favorable conditions for the implantation of the proposed technique. The quality of the water from the bank filtration well was consid- ered satisfactory, according to the parameters analyzed.
