Abstract

Academic performance can be influenced by various factors. This study is conducted to investigate whether the English Proficiency (MUET) and loading hours have some kind of effect on one's academic performance. Academic performance was measured based on the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The results of the CGPA, loading hours and MUET of the Second Semester Engineering Students at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, UKM were collected and a statistical analysis was performed. Two tests were used to investigate the relationship between these two variables, the Spearman Rho Correlation and Pearson-Chi Square tests. The study reveals interesting correlation among the factors which also serves as the end of this study. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
