Abstract

Although mangrove ecosystems are supported by various environmental legislations, they still suffer from improper disposal of solid waste. This study aims to reflect, using photographic images, on the problem of urban solid waste production and its disposal in mangrove areas, with a view to diagnosing necessary environmental education actions for the conservation of ecosystems. The research took place according to the phenomenological method, which seeks to reveal deeper aspects of the context and allowed researchers to have a better understanding of the lived experience. The technique used was the image capture. The concepts studied contributed to the discussion of negative impacts caused in the mangrove by the disposal of some types of waste. It was concluded that photography, as a means of diagnosis, allowed another look at environmental issues.
