Diversity, Context, and Complexity in Regenerative Medicine

Abstract

Abstract: In regenerative medicine, while significant advances have been made in the science and practices of improving health outcomes in patients, there is still a dearth of knowledge about ways to model and consider diversity, context, and complexities connected to patients’ ancestries and lives. This article serves as a call from two scholars of color who have both lived and served the scientific community of regenerative medicine. It is our hope that intertwining our experiences can prompt continuing discussions amongst the regenerative medicine community. Lay Summary: Many diseases affect patients of different ancestral backgrounds, and in this article, we highlight the need to consider diversity and complexities in patients’ ancestral and lived experiences. Our research influences the scientific community, and we hope to have each person intertwine their experiences in our research.
