Abstract

The cultivation of musaceae is of great importance for the economy of Ecuador, both for the consumption of the producer and the inhabitants; It generates sources of employment, it helps the occupational level of the producers and that their family improves. The objective of this research was to evaluate community development in two areas that produce muses and then achieve agro-socioeconomic characterization of the productive units in the study areas. By means of a survey of producers, aspects related to the profile of producers, establishment of crops, social activity, cultural work, harvest, post-harvest and marketing are evaluated. The results showed that most of the producers are of advanced age and have a low level of education. The surfaces of the musaceae plantations are small, without technicalities, deficiencies in disinfection, production, harvest and post-harvest processes. This problem has a negative influence on the quality of the product and the adequate commercialization and profitability. Concluding, that better training strategies and cleaner production technologies should be implemented to increase production and improve product quality, with a view to improving marketing and access to better prices, thus increasing profitability for the producer and the community development.
