Abstract

Design and management are activities that focus on solvingproblems, and the best way to integrate design into companiesis to do it gradually, responsibly and deliberately. Suchintegration can be seen in numerous publications that showthe professionalism of designers and their activities on thehighest levels of corporate management. Thus, it becomesimportant for managers to establish ways of measuringdesign, in order to make known the contributions designdelivers to the achievement of the company’s goals. However, knowledge of performance indicators by designers isrestricted and the subject is rarely addressed in Brazilian academicjournals. This study conducted a systematic reviewof Design Metrics. Considering the importance of the largestinternational source of research in design, viz. the publicationsof the Design Management Institute, this study discussesthe research currents and the foci adopted by leadinginternational authors. Finally, it also suggests research pathsto be further explored.
