Abstract
Game-based learning (GBL) is not new in the country's educational landscape; it is also applied as a teaching aid among educators. Gamification such as Wordwall, Quizziz, Kahoot!, and Quizlet are among the sources of game-based learning applications that have been introduced and used at various levels of study. However, this gamification has not yet been fully optimized for use because there are still many educators who use conventional methods in their teaching. Therefore, this study focuses on the introduction of the concept of gamification and its importance in learning. Next, review the effectiveness of using gamification in teaching and learning Arabic based on previous studies. This study uses a qualitative approach by examining past literature from articles related to gamification in teaching and learning Arabic. The results of the study found that the learning process that uses gamification methods can motivate students and increase students' interest in learning Arabic. Arabic language gamification studies in Malaysia were found to be more focused on the mastery of vocabulary and certain language skills, but there is still less gamification research conducted on the mastery of Arabic grammar. This literature review also concludes with recommendations for further research that aims to dignify game-based learning in teaching and learning Arabic.
